UNDERSTAND ANXIETY, FEARS AND PHOBIAS IN HORSES

Anxiety, fears and phobias can be the cause of a variety of horse behaviour and welfare problems. Scientific research can give us a deeper understanding of the psychological nuances and emotions that horses experience and how these manifest as behaviour.

In this engaging webinar, neuroscientist and horse behaviour consultant Emma Lethbridge will delve into the fascinating realm of equine psychology, focusing on anxiety, fears, and phobias. She will guide you through the subtle signals horses give when experiencing these emotions, helping you become a more attuned and compassionate horse owner.

It will cover topics such as:

  • What is Fear: consider how horse's generate and experience fearful emotions.

  • Anxiety vs. Fears vs. Phobias: distinguish between anxiety, fears and debilitating phobias.

  •  Debunking Myths: common misconceptions surrounding equine fear behaviour.

  • Communication Cues: grasp the subtle language of horses, decoding their signals to build trust and create a supportive environment.

  • Practical Solutions: receive practical tips and strategies to help your horse overcome anxieties and fears, fostering a harmonious partnership.

This presentation is for horse owners, equine veterinarians and other paraprofessionals who work in the equine industry. It will also be useful for anyone considering a career in horse behaviour consulting.

After the presentation, Emma will answer questions.

MEET THE PRESENTER

EMMA LETHBRIDGE

Part neuroscientist, part horse fanatic, Emma is fascinated by the equine brain and how horses perceive and respond to their world. Emma has 32 years’ experience with horses, having been lucky enough to have been riding since she was four and to have had four wonderful family horses since the age of 12.

Emma has studied horses to master’s level, read a degree in neuroscience and obtained a PhD in neuropsychology; she has also ridden in affiliated competitions, worked on professional yards, directed an equine learning centre, taught riding, helped many people with their horse’s behaviour and, more importantly than all of that combined, she has come to love equines not for what they can do for us, but for the wonderful creatures they are in their own right.
