BETTER BEGINNINGS - BUILDING RESILIENCE IN YOUNG HORSES
The early days of a horse's life are critical. From pre-birth through weaning to transitioning into a new home and family, every experience shapes their future behaviour and well-being. But what happens when these early stages aren't handled well and how can we support young horses who may face challenges as well as mature horses who might have lasting problems resulting from early day’s handling?
Discover the importance of nurturing resilience in foals and how these principles can be applied to older horses who may be struggling. This presentation will provide valuable insights and modern practical training strategies to enhance the lives of your horse.
Webinar content includes:
Learn why the first few weeks and months of a horse's life are so crucial, with a focus on critical developmental stages and epigenetics.
Weaning, it's not just about nutrition – the presence of the mare and herd influences a foal's development and sense of security.
Handling difficult interventions, we’ll share a brief case study showing how to manage medical treatments using modern methods even with a very young foal.
Techniques to foster confidence and adaptability in foals, with strategies that can also benefit older horses.
Recognising stress and anxiety in horses so you can intervene early and effectively.
Practical tips for providing a positive social environment and effective training techniques that lead to better outcomes.
Engage your horse with new experiences safely and effectively, using R+, slow training, and controlled exposure to novelty with a short case study to further explore techniques.
This webinar is aimed at horse owners/carers, students and equestrian professionals.
After the presentation, Gabriel and Trudi will answer questions.
